Park Slope Women’s Shelter
Resurrection Park Slope is looking for volunteers to restart a program helping residents of the Park Slope Women’s Shelter in their process to find permanent housing. Volunteers will conduct practice housing interviews with the residents to familiarize them with the questions they can expect from prospective landlords. The shelter has found in the past that the mock interviews truly resulted in increasing a resident’s chance of finding housing. RPS provided this service at the shelter for many years, but we’ve been on a hiatus because of staff changes. The shelter would like to start up again now and so would we. Volunteering would involve a couple hours on a Sunday afternoon (1:30 to 3:30pm) once a month or every other month depending on how many volunteers we have. New volunteers would accompany an experienced volunteer during one or two interview sessions for training. The shelter is located on 8th Avenue between 14th and 15th Streets. If you’re interested in volunteering and/or coordinating, please contact Debbie Revesz.
